Help!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let\u2019s start off with a little information about \u201clabels\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-946 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Post-It-LABELS.jpg\" alt=\"Post It LABELS\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Post-It-LABELS.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Post-It-LABELS-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Post-It-LABELS-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So\u2026 A <strong>\u201chypnotist\u201d<\/strong> uses hypnotism to create hypnosis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A <strong>\u201chypnotherapist\u201d<\/strong> uses psychotherapy techniques AND hypnosis, which can significantly enhance the effectiveness of the therapy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u201cClinical hypnotherapists\u201d<\/strong> are pretty much just regularly trained hypnotherapists who use hypnotherapy for<em> clinical purposes <\/em>(in the treatment of medical conditions such as pain\u2026 skin complaints\u2026 depression\u2026 hypno-birthing\u2026 psycho-sexual disorders\u2026 and particularly those problems where <em>other <\/em>healthcare providers are involved in the overall management of the client).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But really, does the label \/ title of the hypnotherapist matter? Well\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8230;no.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It\u2019s like saying should I buy supermarket\u2019s own Cornflakes or Kellogg\u2019s\u2026 If you had to choose in a blind taste test, you probably wouldn\u2019t be able to tell the difference&#8230; To all intents and purposes they&#8217;re the same thing, and it\u2019s pretty much the same with hypnotherapists or &#8220;clinical hypnotherapists&#8221;. The training is technically (and legally) not required to be any different. This is because in the UK, the only form of hypnosis that is regulated by <strong>actual legal legislation<\/strong> is hypnosis for entertainment purposes, or \u201cstage hypnosis\u201d (with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/Geo6and1Eliz2\/15-16\/46\/contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Hypnotism Act 1952<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hypnosis for <strong>any therapeutic purposes<\/strong> is <em>not<\/em> covered by legislation, nor is the title of \u2018Hypnotherapist\u2019, meaning; <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">anyone<\/span> can call themselves a hypnotherapist or <em>even<\/em> a \u201cclinical hypnotherapist\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It\u2019s just a label.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In real terms, it means nothing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2026at all&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It\u2019d be like saying you\u2019re a \u201cclinical dog walker\u201d \u2026 yes, anyone <em>could legally<\/em> say that, but what does it mean??? As such, you will need to know what you&#8217;ll be <em>learning <\/em>on the hypnotherapy course that you choose to take, whether a hypnotherapy certificate, \u201cclinical hypnotherapy course\u201d, \u201chypnotherapy diploma\u201d or otherwise&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">To do this effectively, it\u2019s a great idea to <strong>directly compare your potential course options, and find out what they <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">actually<\/span> offer <\/strong>(you do this by looking through the website\/prospectus&#8230;and if that doesn&#8217;t give you the info&#8230;ASK FOR IT!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>So <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">what<\/span> do you need to know? <\/strong>Well here are 2 of the main things:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">1 &#8211; Course content:<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-952\" src=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"hypnotherapy course content\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_316227089-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Here are 9 questions you should be asking about the course content:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it blend theories and information with practical skills and real world knowledge?<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it meet the core curriculum for hypnotherapy training?<br \/>\n(This is pretty important, as you&#8217;ll learn in a little while. You can download a PDF copy of the hypnotherapy core curriculum here: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Core-Curriculum.pdf\">Download Core Curriculum<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it meet the recommended training hours required by UK \/ International professional associations?<br \/>\n(450 learning hours is the required amount by many of these associations)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Is the course content\/training externally accredited?<br \/>\n(the main UK accreditation being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com\/hypnotc-the-hypnotherapy-training-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">GHSC\/GHR<\/a> and FHT)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it teach you information <em>about<\/em> various problems and conditions that people will come to you with \u2013 including symptoms and treatment methods?<br \/>\n(if so, which?)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it teach you how to actually help people with said conditions?<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Does it teach you how to adapt your skills to treat everyone as an individual?<br \/>\n(because &#8220;the same&#8221; presenting problem can have a thousand different <em>motivations<\/em> and <em>causes <\/em>\u2026which is why &#8220;content-free methods&#8221;, \u201chypnotherapy scripts\u201d and other \u201cstandardised approaches\u201d for clients suffering \u201cthe same problem\u201d generally would have little\/limited success)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Is it a highly practical course?<br \/>\n(hypnotherapy is a highly practical profession and the majority of people will not be able to learn to do it effectively by <em>just talking about it<\/em>, or <em>reading books<\/em>&#8230; You have to actually <em><strong>practice<\/strong><\/em> to become a proficient hypnotherapist)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, do you have to actually pass an <strong>EXAM<\/strong> to qualify?<br \/>\n(if you don\u2019t, alarm bells should be ringing!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">2 &#8211; Trainers:<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-958\" src=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_358977299.jpg\" alt=\"Hypnotherapy trainer\" width=\"700\" height=\"323\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_358977299.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_358977299-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_358977299-768x355.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Here are 4 questions you should be asking about the course trainers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Are your trainers <em>actually<\/em> qualified themselves?<br \/>\n(you <em>can<\/em> ask for proof &#8211; and a qualified trainer would usually supply it!)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Are your trainers qualified to actually <em>teach<\/em>?<br \/>\n(again&#8230;what are their teaching qualifications?)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Can they <em>actually teach?<br \/>\n<\/em>(some \u201chypnotherapy trainers\u201d are great at demonstrating that <strong>they<\/strong> can do hypnosis\u2026 but that\u2019s about it. You&#8217;re not paying to watch someone else do it, you&#8217;re paying to learn it yourself!)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Do they actually help students learn?<br \/>\n(some hypnotherapy trainers just &#8220;leave the students to it&#8221;, or simply &#8220;go through the motions&#8221;&#8230; What do the reviews on their website say? Even better if they\u2019re <em>real people<\/em> who you could potentially contact directly for <em><strong>unbiased<\/strong> <\/em>information about the course!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Content is KEY!<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Imagine a <strong>5-day \u201cintensive diploma\u201d course<\/strong>\u2026 It <em>definitely<\/em> gets your training out of the way quickly\u2026 but, do you actually <em>learn<\/em> and <em>retain <\/em>the information? Maybe yes, and maybe no&#8230; depending on the course, contents and training. However, does it actually cover the 120 classroom hours and 450 total learning hours required to meet the UK Core Curriculum? No. Intensive courses can be a great way to get your training completed and receive a certificate, but you need to ensure that the intensive training is full of top quality content, and taught in a way that will allow you to use the information you learn, and retain it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There is also the other extreme\u2026 How about <strong>four or five <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">years<\/span> to get a hypnotherapy degree<\/strong>?\u00a0 Yes, you will <em>definitely <\/em>cover the minimum learning hours\u2026but do you <em>need<\/em> a degree to be a hypnotherapist? \u2026the fact that way less than 1% of hypnotherapists in practice in the UK actually have a legitimate hypnotherapy degree, would suggest not. For some people, <em>just having<\/em> <em>a degree<\/em> may be the most important thing, but for many people (and perhaps you included), it is more about becoming confident and competent at <em>actually <\/em>helping people, <em>without<\/em> spending years learning how to write academic papers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-959 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_387587875.jpg\" alt=\"Hypnotherapy degree\" width=\"700\" height=\"468\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_387587875.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_387587875-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_387587875-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/shutterstock_387587875-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"so-what-qualifications-actually-enable-you-to-use-hypnotherapy-in-a-%e2%80%9cclinical%e2%80%9d-setting\"><\/span>So, what qualifications <em>actually<\/em> enable you to use hypnotherapy in a \u201cclinical\u201d setting?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Although <em>not legally regulated<\/em>, there <em>is<\/em> a UK regulator for hypnotherapists, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnhc.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)<\/a>, where registration is <em>voluntary<\/em> (but it can be seen as a sign of professionalism and quality of training &#8211; and it&#8217;s something we always suggest our own students seriously consider doing).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The CNHC are there to help protect the public (therapy clients), and maintain a register of professionally trained therapists. The CNHC themselves are regulated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.professionalstandards.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Professional Standards Authority (PSA)<\/a> who also regulate (amongst others) the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc-uk.org\/aboutus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Health and Care Professions Council<\/a> (who regulate UK psychologists) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmc-uk.org\/about\/what-we-do-and-why\/our-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">General Medical Council<\/a> (who regulate UK doctors).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>To be eligible for registration with the CNHC, your training, as a hypnotherapist, MUST meet or exceed the Core Curriculum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-961 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/CNHC-PSA.jpg\" alt=\"CNHC PSA\" width=\"555\" height=\"127\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/CNHC-PSA.jpg 555w, https:\/\/hypnotc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/CNHC-PSA-300x69.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Why is CNHC registration important for you as a prospective hypnotherapist \/ &#8220;clinical hypnotherapist&#8221;?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Because the Department of Health and other national organisations,<strong> such as the NHS<\/strong>, are focused on using therapists who are regulated by the CNHC, and are <strong>advising doctors and other healthcare professionals to use CNHC registered hypnotherapists.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As the public are becoming increasingly more well-informed about hypnotherapy, they do their research, looking for \u2018gold standard\u2019 professionals (\u2026because why go to an \u2018OK\u2019 therapist when you <em>could<\/em> go to a \u2018great\u2019 one).
